· Want to learn more about our local environment?
· Interested in doing your own research into environmental science topics?
· Want to meet other students & community members who share your interests?
· Interested in sharing knowledge and ideas with students from around the world?
· Like the idea of spending afternoons at Arastradero Preserve and other outdoor sites?
In our GLOBE® program, you will
take measurements and collect data from the air, water, soil, biomass, and
other elements of the natural environment at a local site. Then you will
report your data on the international GLOBE®
web site, where it can be used by students and scientists all over the world.
You will learn to use GPS and to interpret remote sensing satellite data.
Most importantly, you will ask your own questions
about the local and global environment - and do the research to answer them.
Those questions and answers may provide you, voters and local scientists with information needed to make decisions about our impact on the land, air and water. It can help us figure out the best places for development and where to preserve local ecosystems in healthy, natural states.
